I am already volunteering, can I use this for HeadStart? What counts as volunteering anyway?
Yes, as long as you are volunteering with a charity or not for profit organization you can select 'Find my own volunteering' and use these hours. You cannot use hours you complete during NCS. You also cannot count hours you spend helping a family member at a place of business, for example, at a beauty salon or a food establishment.
There are no opportunities available with Charity Partners in my area. What do I do now?
Don't worry. You can select the option to 'Find Your Own Volunteering' opportunity, this means you can pick from charities in your area.
Do I have to attend my first day of volunteering?
Yes - You will have a tour, meet members of your team, and discuss volunteering hours. Make sure you read the charity descriptions to find out what you will be doing at the placement and find something that suits you. Also, remember to check your travel distances and make sure that you will be able to attend.
How do I choose a charity partner?
When applying we have a postcode search for opportunities near you.
My charity partner has finished for summer/cancelled a few sessions and I haven't completed 16 hours, what do I do?
Don't worry. Record the hours that you have done. Let us know that this is the situation then look to top up the rest by finding your own volunteering or signing up to one of our top-up your hour's events. We will make a note of this on your profile.
I'm going on holiday this summer, can I still take part in HeadStart?
When applying for HeadStart put down your "away dates" and check that you can attend that first day of volunteering. When you attend your first day of volunteering you will be able to discuss your availability with the charity partner and agree the remaining days and times directly. If you can't attend the first day of volunteering then choose a different placement which you are available to attend.
I can't attend my first day of volunteering as I'm on holiday.
It's really important that you check your availability before you choose an opportunity. If you have already had your placement confirmed and are unable to attend the first day of volunteering, please get in contact with the HeadStart team on firstname.lastname@example.org or on Live Chat where we will be able to support you further.
I'm having problems with my charity partner, what should I do?
Please contact us on email@example.com or on Live Chat if you are experiencing problems which you do not feel able to resolve.
All my friends have received emails about their applications and I have not received one, why is that?
There is probably nothing to worry about, we are processing all of the applications as soon as we can. If there are any placement issues which are delaying your application being accepted, the team will contact you to discuss the options. If you would like to speak to a member of the team please contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org or you can speak to one of our agents on Live Chat.
What days do I need to volunteer?

How do I change my volunteering placement?
Let us know as soon as possible if you have any problems with your chosen placement. It may not always be possible to change to another HeadStart charity partner. Who do I contact when I am running late for my volunteering?
If you are running late or can no longer attend your first day of volunteering please contact the charity partner directly. If you do not have their details you can contact us on email@example.com or on Live Chat.
How do I log my hours?
You log your hours on your HeadStart profile, using your username and password from your application. Tell us the date and how many hours you volunteered. Make sure you update your hours after each of your shifts so that you can track your progress to be invited to our exclusive workshops.
What do I need to wear?
Most volunteering placements do not have a dress code. Your confirmation email will tell you if you need to wear any specific clothing or footwear. If you haven't received this information then please just wear something comfortable. We would advise smart/casual to make a good impression e.g. no hats.
I didn't get log in details for my online profile.
Your log in details are the same details you used to complete your HeadStart application form. You can find the website here and log in by clicking the red button in the top right-hand corner.
